Katy Perry Just Announced a New Song, and Fans Are Convinced It’s With Taylor Swift

UPDATE: Monday, May 11, at 2 p.m. ET— Katy Perry has responded to those collab rumors with Taylor Swift. “Well, you’re just gonna have to tune in to Idol next week if all rumors are true or false,” the American Idol judge told Extra in a new interview. “What I can tell you is…we had plans to do different things a couple months ago and had to pivot…. I’m really excited, personally, my team and I have come up with a really innovative way to perform my new song ‘Daisies.’”

ORIGINAL STORY: May 8, 2020—

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift fans have, once again, put their detective skills to the test and concocted a theory that the two are collaborating on new music.

Perry and Swift were famously less than friendly with each other for many years, but ever since a literal olive branch was exchanged—Perry sent one to Swift ahead of her Reputation tour—fans have been clamoring for them work together. Perry did appear in the video for Swift’s song “You Need to Calm Down” in 2019, but the two have yet to record a song together...maybe until now.

Thanks to social media clues, people think the collab is finally, actually happening. On May 7, Perry announced the name of the first single from her new album. “🌼 The first single from #KP5 is called #DAISIES and she’s coming MAY 15, 2020 🌼 THE MUSIC MUST GO ON,” she wrote on Instagram.

Later that day Swift posted a photo of herself wearing a sweater with daisies on it and holding a glass of white wine. “🍷 🐍 biiig isolation 🐍 🍷,” she wrote.

But that’s not all. Perry’s show American Idol tweeted about her song, “We can’t wait to play this like 1,989 times in a row,” seemingly a reference to Swift’s album 1989.

Fans noticed that even the announcement date, May 7, has significance in the singers’ relationship. “Today marks the 2nd anniversary of Reputation Stadium Tour where Katy Perry sent an olive branch to Taylor Swift with a letter,” one wrote. “Katy Perry announced her first single ‘Daisies’ today and Taylor Swift shared her photo wearing daisies. A possible collab?"

Fans also picked up on an earlier tweet where Perry references lyrics from “You Need to Calm Down.” “This can’t be a coincidence, two days ago Katy referenced ‘YNTCD’ lyrics. We are definitely getting Taylor x Katy Collab,” one user tweeted.

We have to say this circumstantial evidence is highly convincing.

Meanwhile, Swift just announced another new project. Well…sort of. While many thought she might be dropping a new music video on May 8, it’s actually a concert film. “Excited to announce the City of Lover Concert! We filmed my show in Paris in September and thought it’d be fun to share it with you.”

May 15 can’t come soon enough. I need to see if these theories are correct!
