They call it the Snowflake Ball for a reason; Katy Perry, who received the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award at last night’s event, appropriately floated like a delicate snowflake in a sheer, shimmering opalescent gown. The $8,000 Marchesa Pleated Grecian Gown featured iridescent lace detailing and fabric flower corsages on the shoulders, neckline, and bodice.

Its pleated skirt was see-through enough to give a glimpse of the singer’s underwear, which we’re not sure was intentional. Perry paired her gown with a matching box clutch bag, several rings, and flower earrings. The singer wore her dark hair down and slicked back but put it half up to accept her award. She completed the look with frosted eye shadow, extra long lashes, and a berry lip.

When it came time for the “Roar” singer to glide onto the stage like a floating snowflake to accept her award, none other than her BFF, former Secretary of State and Democratic candidate for president Hillary Clinton, showed up in a glowing yellow suit jacket and black slacks to deliver a moving speech to Perry (only after a standing ovation for Clinton), who was immediately brought to tears.

“I am so grateful to have this chance to be here to really celebrate UNICEF, which has such a powerful mission,” Clinton said in her speech. “On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate … someone who just has the spirit and the energy and the compassion that Audrey Hepburn brought to her work for UNCIEF, someone who is a global megastar, the person who is the social-media queen, with the most Twitter followers in the world … although, she’s getting some competition…,” she said. “Someone whose powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us when you get knocked down to get back up,” Clinton continued, igniting applause. “I have seen Katy’s commitment to the causes she believes in firsthand. I’ve gotten to spend time with her, and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever,” she concluded. Amen, sister.

Perry began her speech asking for a tissue. “I’ve always had a voice — a singing voice, right? — but I’ve never had a voice like I had before, and Hillary has lit that voice inside of me. And that light will never go out. It will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter,” Perry proclaimed. “Thank you, Hillary. You motivate me and so many millions of people; we appreciate you.”

Then she addressed the audience, saying, “I don’t know about you, but I am motivated now…. Make some noise if you’re glad that that bubble has been burst. No more just hoping for the best and easy living; we need to come together united for the best.”

Perry has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2013 and has since traveled to Madagascar and Vietnam on behalf of the U.N. children’s organization. The singer also campaigned for Hillary Clinton throughout the 2016 presidential race, becoming one of her most avid celebrity supporters.
