Katie Holmes Reveals How She Prepared to Run the NYC Marathon

Did you know Katie Holmes ran the New York City Marathon in 2007? Us either. Last week, the actress opened up about how she prepped for the marathon over a decade ago.

PureWow attended the Hoka One One's "Women Who Fly Panel," where Holmes served as one of the panelists. The 40-year-old looked comfortably chic in light-wash jeans, a black blazer and a pair of white Hoka One One Gaviota Leather sneakers.

The actress discussed her personal wellness journey alongside track athlete Ce’Aira Brown and Alex Covington of the women’s advancement community The Wing.

While discussing her workout routine, the Ray Donovan star casually revealed that she once ran the New York City Marathon.

“ I used to put a lot of pressure on myself and say, ‘Oh, you have to work out five times this week,’ and then I decided you know what, I’m going to put this in the category of self-care and actually enjoy it,” said Holmes. “I look at it like that because then I don’t have all the pressure. I do yoga, boxing and cycling. I did the marathon in 2007 and I really ran it. But, I don’t run as much anymore.” Casual indeed.

Of course, the audience had many more questions, like how did she prepare?

“I listen to music. And my brother runs marathons, so he made me a playlist, which was great,” she said. “It was a lot of Kanye’s (West) 'Stronger.' And I kept playing that at the end when I was trying to make it to the finish line.” Wow.

Midday naps and Kanye West? We know how we’re prepping for our next race.
