We don’t need to tell you that Katie Holmes, woman about town, is having a moment. She’s made the transformation from the former Joey Potter of Dawson’s Creek to fashion icon all in the span of a summer. And when she’s not encouraging us to break with long-held fashion rules, she’s inspiring our fall wardrobe by showing us how to pair the unexpected (like orange and black).
The most recent case of this occurred last night when the 40-year-old actress and philanthropist put a fun and sassy spin on the traditional LBD while hitting up not one, but two events.
Holmes kicked things off in New York at the Nordstrom NYC flagship store VIP opening party and then continued on to the MaMa Experimental Theatre Club 2019 Gala with the energy of a 20-year-old. But it wasn’t her ability to go hard on a Tuesday that caught our attention (OK, that, too), it was actually her polka-dot tights.
According to her stylist Allison Bornstein’s Instagram, Holmes wore the Saint Laurent ruched silk minidress ($2,800) and Saint Laurent dotted voile tights ($210) for her big night out. Since the Saint Laurent dress she rocked is on the shorter side, the tights make the look feel more demure, while still keeping a sexy edge. And because Holmes’s dress is close to selling out and not everyone is down to spend $210 on tights, we found some less expensive alternatives: the Zimmermann Espionage silk drape dress ($560) and Commando polka-dot sheer tights ($36).
The Dawson’s Creek alum completed her look with black suede Giuseppe Zanotti Carolyne pumps ($675) and the Bienen Davis 4am clutch with a gold chain to add an edgy element (here’s a similar model, $1,995).
All black never looked so good.
