Katie Holmes Just Wore One of Next Year’s Biggest Trends — and You Can Buy It on Nordstrom for Under $200

Katie Holmes has an un-celebrity-like ability to get her money’s worth from everything she wears. Sure, she’ll spend $1,800 on a good pair of zebra-print knee-high boots, but you can expect to see her wearing the hell out of them. And while we’re happy she’s getting her cost-per-wear in for those Khaite boots, we’re not thrilled at our growing desire to spend all the money we don’t have every time we’re reminded of their existence. Luckily, the leather pants she recently paired them with are a much more attainable trend to emulate.

To make the boots pop, Holmes opted for a pair of Tibi Leather Shorts. A pair of leather pants by Tibi are definitely luxurious — they retail for just under $1,000 — but plenty of other leather pants (and culottes like Holmes’s) cost way less at Nordstrom and look nearly identical.

Zebra print gave snakeskin a run for its money as Breakout Animal Print of 2019, but fun leather pants like these are bound to be a big trend for 2020. Fun pants have been having a bit of a moment recently: Blame Harry Styles’s very good Gucci wide-leg trousers on the cover of Fine Line, but everyone, as GQ put it, has been freaking out about pants.

But unlike Styles’s sailor trousers or the pair of psychedelic Paloma Wool lime green pants that have taken over Instagram, fun leather pants can be subtle. They’re more exciting than a pair of vintage black jeans, but they don’t require much thought when you’re trying to decide what to style them with. Leather pants are like a moto jacket for your legs — they make everything look cool. And there are some great pairs for less than $200 available at Nordstrom now that will pay for themselves with each wear. Holmes would be proud.
