Katie Couric Is Set to Guest Host 'Jeopardy!' Following Alex Trebek’s Passing

Katie Couric is the latest personality tapped to guest host Jeopardy! following longtime host Alex Trebek’s death. The Los Angeles Times reports Couric will take over the show for one week after expert game show contestant Ken Jennings’s episodes, which are scheduled to air starting January 11.

Couric—who’s well known for her success as a co-anchor on NBC’s morning news program Today—declined to comment when the outlet asked if she was interested in becoming Trebek’s full-time replacement on the iconic game show. In the past, Couric has infrequently delivered clues on Jeopardy!.

Previously, Couric was also a CBS Evening News anchor and hosted a daytime talk show. She currently runs her own media company called Katie Couric Media that tells stories through short and long-form video series, podcasts, and a daily newsletter.

Trebek’s final episodes of Jeopardy! were taped in October before he died on November 8 after fighting pancreatic cancer. His final episodes include a sentimental speech in which Trebek talks about coming together and being strong. A few weeks after he passed away, the Sony Pictures Television–produced show announced it will have a series of interim guest hosts that will likely continue until a permanent replacement is named.

"Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him," executive producer Mike Richards shared in the statement. "We will honor his legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved."
