From Town & Country

Actor Chris Pratt and author (and great-niece to JFK) Katherine Schwarzenegger, have been settling in to newlywed life nicely since their wedding ceremony last June, and now they've welcomed their first child together.

The child's birthday and name have yet to be shared publicly, but in August Pratt shared a picture of them hiking with Katherine sporting a significant baby belly. "Ready to pop, still don't stop," Pratt captioned the photo. People confirmed the pregnancy in late April with a source telling the publication, “Family is very important to both of them, as well as their spirituality."

Here's what else the couple have been up to:

The In-Laws

When it comes to the beginning of a marriage, getting settled in with a new family can be complicated, but Pratt already had a head start with the Shriver/Schwarzenegger clan—Katherine's mother Maria Shriver was, in fact, integral in introducing Chris and Katherine in the first place.

As early as fall 2018, the couple were seen out dining with Katherine's father Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his girlfriend, Heather Milligan and they spent their first Thanksgiving together that year hanging out with Katherine's mother and brothers. “You can tell Chris knows Katherine’s family really well,” the insider told People at the time. “Chris always seems very comfortable around her family. It’s like he is part of the family.”

Of course, Chris may have had another trick up his sleeve when it came to winning over his new father-in-law as well: hitting the gym.

"Of course, the first thing when we met, he says, ‘Can we have a workout together? I need to have the inside scoop to the pumping iron,’" Arnold said in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in October 2019. He joked later on, "When I watched him make his moves in the gym, the incline press specifically did it. [That’s] why I wanted him to become my son-in-law. It was the incline press."

During the interview, Arnold also revealed that Pratt had asked him for Katherine's hand in marriage before proposing, and that his son-in-law definitely has the Schwarzenegger stamp of approval.

"I’m really happy that he is such a great guy," he told Kimmel. "Not only a very talented guy and a great actor and a great star and all this stuff, but a really kind man and kind to my daughter, which is the most important thing for me."

The Wedding

Pratt and Schwarzenegger reportedly tied the knot in June 2019 in an intimate ceremony in Montecito, California. Their families were in attendance, as were close friends like actor Rob Lowe.

“Chris and Katherine’s wedding will be a very intimate affair with just their closest loved ones,” a source told People ahead of the ceremony. “They don’t want it to be a circus. The focus will be their commitment to each other, and God will play a very large role on their big day."

Both the bride and groom wore custom Armani on their big day—and thanked the designer in their near-identical Instagram posts.

Katherine's Bridal Shower

Katherine's low-key, luxe bridal shower in April was a subtle reminder for anyone who might have forgotten that a Schwarzenegger brings star power of her own.

The shower, which was held at Maria Shriver's home included guests like Oprah Winfrey, and family, including her father, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Pratt also made an appearance and gave a sweet toast to his then bride-to-be, but mostly stayed out of the limelight, reportedly wanting to let her be the center of attention at the party.

The Engagement

Katherine and Pratt officially announced their engagement on January 14, 2019 in an Instagram post which showed off Katherine's new engagement ring.

"Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go! 💍🙏♥️" Pratt wrote.

Schwarzenegger later shared the photo to her Instagram, writing "My sweet love. Wouldn’t want to live this life with anyone but you."

While their relationship had been far from secret, neither of the celebrities had made public statements about their romance until December 13, 2018 when Pratt sent out a sweet birthday message for Schwarzenegger on his Instagram.

"Happy Birthday Chief! Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care," he wrote in the caption to a photo collage of Schwarzenegger smiling and laughing as well as two photos of the couple together—one in sheet masks printed with animal faces, and one of Pratt kissing a grinning Schwarzenegger on the cheek.

The couple were later spotted lounging by a pool together on vacation in Cabo San Lucas on New Year's Eve, People reported.

How They Met

Turns out, the Guardians of the Galaxy star owes his first meet-up with the daughter of actor/politician Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist/philanthropist Maria Shriver to Shiver herself, who reportedly played matchmaker for the couple. “Maria helped set them up,” a source told People. Maria and Chris evidently knew one another through mutual friends, which inspired her to put him in touch with Katherine.

Though they were initially spotted together in public on Father's Day 2018, it apparently wasn't their first date. According to E! News, Chris and Katherine had gone out multiple times prior to their June 17 date, and had been "talking consistently" for about "two months or so."

Both are spiritually-minded (Katherine was raised Catholic while Pratt is a vocal christian and regularly attends the Zoe Church in Los Angeles) and were spotted several times attending services together. On one such occasion in July of 2018, they brought along Jack, Chris's five year old son with ex-wife, actress Anna Faris, buying him ice cream and sharing a sweet public kiss.

Though their romance had been captured in Instagrams, paparazzi photos, and public comments, they had largely kept their relationship outside of the spotlight. The movie premiere marked the first time that they stepped out together in an official capacity as a couple—no mean feat, considering that Pratt starred in at least three films that debuted while they were dating.

Their Plans for the Future

In his first interview since the couple went public with their engagement Pratt talked to ET in late January 2019 about his hopes for the future with Schwarzenegger, especially when it comes to family. "The future?" he said. "Oh. Lots of kids."

"Maybe less time spent working, more time spent enjoying life," Pratt added. "I always want to be that guy that works to live, not lives to work. I think [I want to spend] just a lot of time at the farm and a lot of time catching a lot of fish and seeing lots of sunsets."

Though the couple only started dating in the spring of 2018, they were obviously taking their future together seriously. In the same week they announced their engagement, the couple also reportedly moved in together in a house in west Los Angeles, close to where Pratt's ex-wife Anna Faris lives with their 6-year-old son, Jack.
