Kate and William have ‘rows and tensions’ but ‘commitment’ is ‘unwavering’
With Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 10 year wedding anniversary approaching, a royal expert has given insider information about their marriage and how the Queen may mark the occasion.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge married on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey having met whilst studying at St. Andrews University together.
The wedding was watched by 17.6 million people in the UK, and globally the audience figure reached 2 billion.
Journalist and royal expert Duncan Larcombe was a guest at their wedding and has spoken about the Cambridge’s union.
He said: “It’s impossible to underestimate just what an achievement this milestone represents.
“William and Kate have got through 10 years of marriage and royal duties without so much as a moan. Like any couple, they’ve had their ups and downs, their rows and tensions.”
“But their commitment to the Queen and to this country has been unwavering… and the controversy over Meghan and Harry’s departure from the UK has made that even clearer.”
In their ten years of marriage, the couple has undertaken over 50 patronages between them and supported causes such as mental health, parenting and conservation with the help of their charity The Royal Foundation.
For Kate who is not royal by birth, joining the royal family came with its sacrifices as there are some everyday things she’s not permitted to such as vote or have her own personal social media accounts.
Larcombe believes the Queen will show her appreciation of the couple’s loyalty.
He continued: “Her Majesty will be keen to recognise their decade of loyal service and, in particular, celebrate Kate’s unique contribution to The Firm.”
“An anniversary dinner or reception is obviously impossible because of the Covid-19 pandemic. And I don’t think the Queen will bestow any new honours or titles on the couple either.
“Whatever she decides, as a Queen and grandmother, she will not let this occasion pass without paying tribute to Kate and William.”
