Supermodel Kate Moss, who famously lives by a 'never complain, never explain' mantra, has opened up in a rare interview (during an appearance on Desert Island Discs) and offered an insight into why she took to the stand earlier this year, in order to defend her ex-boyfriend, Johnny Depp, during his defamation trial against Amber Heard.

Heard alleged that Depp had once pushed Moss down the stairs in the 90s when they were dating, saying on the stand when recalling an alleged incident involving herself, Depp and her sister, Whitney, at the top of a staircase: "I remembered information I had heard [that] he pushed a former girlfriend — I believe it was Kate Moss — down the stairs. I had heard this rumour from two people and it was fresh in my mind."

Speaking on the BBC Radio 4 programme, Moss said she felt it was important to clear up what really happened. "I believe in the truth and I believe in fairness and justice," Moss said, when commenting on her much-hyped testimony, which lasted mere minutes, during the trial (the verdict of which Heard is currently in the process of attempting to appeal).

She added, "I know the truth about Johnny, I know he never kicked me down the stairs. I had to say that truth."

When addressing the court, Moss told a very different version of events and said that whilst she did fall down some stairs during a holiday with Depp, it wasn't because she was pushed and that Depp helped her after the tumble.

Explaining that she slipped because the stairs were wet following a storm, Moss said, "I screamed because I didn't know what happened to me and I was in pain, and he came running back to help me and carried me to my room and brought me medical attention... He never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs."

Moss and Depp dated for several years during the mid-90s, after meeting in a New York restaurant. Following their split, Moss told Vanity Fair that she spent "years crying" over their relationship. "There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me," she was quoted as saying. "Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said."
