Kate Middleton's Popularity Is "Unsettling" for King Charles, Who Wants "Attention"
Soooo, Kate Middleton surprised everyone by showing up at the Chelsea Flower Show last week, and arrived literally hours before King Charles and Queen Camilla were scheduled to be there. And naturally this lead to speculation that she was trying to ~steal the flower show spotlight~ somehow, which...no.
The Daily Mail claims Kate was wasn't competing" with Charles and Camilla, and that in general the King and Queen "appreciate" her. That said, the royal editor Richard Eden noted that Kate's extremely popularity is "unsettling" for the King and Queen: "Now that [Charles and Camilla] are King and Queen, it is slightly different. They want lots of attention for their causes and the things that they feel strongly about so it could be a bit unsettling if they don't get that attention."
Prince Harry previously claimed that King Charles was jealous of Kate's media coverage, writing in his book Spare "He did as much as Pa wanted him to do, and sometimes that wasn’t much, because Pa and Camilla didn’t want Willy and Kate getting loads of publicity." Harry also claimed that William was once "openly scolded" by Charles and Camilla for "drawing attention away from them [and] their causes."
Gonna assume Charles and Camilla were aware that Kate was showing up at the Chelsea Flower Show ahead of them, but obviously we'll need to wait 'til The Crown Season 18 to find out for sure.
