There's been a lot of royal news lately, and last night was especially busy for the Sussexes and the Walses, both of whom stepped out for fancy events with tons of cameras. On top of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry being honored at the 2022 Ripple of Hope Awards in NYC, Kate Middleton and Prince William put on their fanciest outfits for the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace—and Kate wore a rarely-seen tiara.

Kate typically wears Princess Diana's iconic Lover's Knot tiara when she's at formal palace events, but last night she went with the Lotus Flower Tiara—which she last wore in 2015 while attending her very first State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

So, what's the deal with this tiara? According to People, it was created by the Queen Mother (aka Queen Elizabeth II's mom) back when she was Duchess of York and is actually made from a necklace that was given to her by King George VI on their wedding day in 1923.

Princess Margaret started wearing the tiara in the late '50s and was seen in it fairly often:

And since then it's been passed to Kate Middleton, who has worn it on three occasions! For last night's event, the newly minted Princess of Wales paired the tiara with a beaded Jenny Packham gown, straightened hair, and a pair of diamond earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. Oh, and also Prince William was there:
