Kate Middleton Revives Royal Glamour in a Candy-Apple Red Cape Dress

Over the past few months, the Princess of Wales has eschewed her signature royal uniform—which typically invoked midi or coatdresses—and embarked on a style transformation relying on a new rotation of royal workwear. This has involved the introduction of modern monochromatic suits, which she has been wearing to public engagements, events for her Shaping Us campaign, and even the Rugby World Cup. Despite this, today made clear that Kate Middleton will still pull out one of her coveted dresses for a special occasion.

Kate joined husband Prince William and in-laws King Charles III and Queen Camilla for a ceremony at London’s Horse Guards Parade ground to welcome President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee of South Korea.

For the occasion, which marks the second state visit ever hosted by the king, Kate wowed in a Catherine Walker cape coatdress awash in a bright candy-apple red. The festive look featured a cape coat adorned with a large bow at the neckline, which concealed a shorter, matching red dress underneath. Kate finished off the bold monochromatic look with a pair of crimson suede pumps from Gianvito Rossi, a wide-brimmed red hat, and a rectangular red shoulder bag with a small bow, from Miu Miu.

As for her jewelry, Kate wore two major pieces that once belonged to Princess Diana: her sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring, of course, and a set of matching sapphire-and-diamond drop earrings.

William subtly color-coordinated with his wife via a red tie, which he wore with a white dress shirt and a navy blue suit.
