Kate Middleton and Prince William Went to an Arcade and Had a Ball—Sorry, I Couldn’t Resist

After a day of volunteering wearing the cutest mask ever, Kate Middleton and Prince William ditched their face coverings for a different kind of playdate.

On August 5 the senior royals visited Barry Island in South Wales to speak with an array of local businesses about the effect COVID-19 has had on tourism before popping into the Island Leisure Amusement Arcade for a bit of fun playing (and losing) multiple games—and unfortunately, there was nary a mask in sight.

Though the U.K. recently adopted a mandate that requires masks to be worn in all enclosed spaces like shops and supermarkets, Welsh guidelines differ, only requiring face coverings on public transportation as of July 27.

While inside the arcade, the duchess attempted to grab a teddy from a claw machine, throwing some thumbs up when she thought she'd won, only for it to slip at the last minute. Luckily, she and Prince William had a bit of better luck with a ball-throwing game, which they played together.

Prince William ended up scoring a pretty impressive number of tickets, which he happily gave over to a group of children. You can watch more moments from their visit below:

Though the royals were not seen wearing masks inside the arcade, the duchess paired her $2,255
Emilia Wickstead floral dress with a $20 face mask from Amaia to meet with residents at the Shire Hall Care Home with her husband.

In fact, this is the same mask that Kate Middleton wore to volunteer at Baby Basics’s Sheffield center on August 4.

“To help support the most vulnerable families in the UK, The Duchess of Cambridge has brought together 19 British brands and retailers to donate over 10,000 new items to more than 40 baby banks across the UK,” the Kensington Royal Instagram account recently posted. “The Duchess helped unpack donations at Baby Basics UK in Sheffield before talking to parents about how baby banks have provided them with invaluable support when they have needed it most.”

Frankly, Kate and William’s masks are adorable and we wouldn’t hate seeing them worn more often! We are in the middle of a global pandemic, after all.
