Kate Middleton and Prince William stepped out for a series of engagements on Wednesday in honor of Windrush Day, a holiday that commemorates Afro-Caribbean immigrants who arrived in the United Kingdom aboard the MV Empire Windrush ship following World War II.

For their first outing, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a joint appearance at Brixton House in London, where they met with younger generations of the British Caribbean community who take part in ELEVATE, a youth program that aims to help young adults build skills and access opportunities within the creative industries.

Kate wore a crisp white suit by her go-to designer Alexander McQueen and paired her fresh look with matching pumps, a Mulberry top handle bag, and geometric-shaped drop earrings by London-based jewelry designer Chalk. William, meanwhile, also looked well-dressed in a navy suit and white shirt with a bright blue-and-red tie.

During the visit, the royal couple chatted with members of ELEVATE's filming and photography workshop about their future career aspirations. At one point, Kate—an avid photographer—also had a chance to go behind a camera and get a video tutorial by one of the participants.

The duke and duchess then headed over to Waterloo Station to attend the unveiling of the National Windrush Monument. The monument pays tribute to and celebrates the thousands of the Afro-Caribbean people who arrived in the U.K. after the war.

In a heartfelt speech in honor of Windrush Day, William said that he and his family "have been proud to celebrate this for decades—whether that be through support from my father on Windrush Day, or more recently during my grandmother's Platinum Jubilee, as people from all communities and backgrounds came together to acknowledge all that has changed over the past seventy years and look to the future."

"This is something that resonated with Catherine and me after our visit to the Caribbean earlier this year," he continued. "Our trip was an opportunity to reflect, and we learnt so much. Not just about the different issues that matter most to the people of the region, but also how the past weighs heavily on the present."
