Today, the Duchess of Cambridge met with United States First Lady Jill Biden, as they visited a primary school in Cornwall. There, the pair discussed the importance of early childhood education, but the Duchess of Cambridge shared a sweet message about one particular young person—her new niece.

Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born last Friday, June 4 to Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Because Harry and Meghan now live in California, Lili was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, in Santa Barbara. Her aunt, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has not yet had the chance to meet her, but she certainly seems excited to do so.

At today's press conference, NBC journalist Andrea Mitchell asked if Kate had any wishes for Lilibet. "I wish her all the very best. I can't wait to meet her, because we haven't yet met her," the Duchess replied. "So, hopefully, that will be soon."

Kate and Dr. Biden spent the day at Connor Downs Academy in Hayle, West Cornwall, which focuses on educating children ages four to eleven. The pair began the day with a visit to the school's Reception Class, which, according to a statement, "uses child-led teaching to help its pupils to develop as independent, confident and successful learners." The Duchess and the First Lady also participated in a number of classroom activities.

Early childhood is a cause close to both the Duchess of Cambridge and the First Lady. Kate has made it a priority during her tenure as Duchess. Dr. Biden, too, is committed to increasing opportunities in the early years, and has seen first hand the importance of education through her years as an English professor and former high school teacher and reading specialist.
