Today in Everything in the Royal Family Continues to Be Incredibly Awkward™, Volume II of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's new docuseries is dropping on the exact same day as Kate Middleton's Christmas carol special.
The palace just revealed that Kate Middleton is joining King Charles for Royal Carols: Together At Christmas at Westminster Abbey, an event that is going down on December 15—when Volume II of Harry & Meghan airs.
"This year's carol service is dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the values Her Majesty demonstrated throughout her life, including duty, empathy, faith, service, kindness, compassion and support for others," the palace said in a press release. "These principles are shared and personified by the inspirational guests who have been invited to the Abbey in recognition of their tireless work to help and care for those around them."
Truly unwell at this timing. As we know, the royals are in a state of meltdown over the Sussexes' forthcoming Netflix docuseries, though the palace's plan at the moment is pretty much to pretend it doesn't exist.
“It’s likely going to be tricky but the intention is to keep heads down and keep going,” a royal source tells Vanity Fair. “It’s a tried and tested strategy and has served them well in the past. William is letting his work speak for itself as we saw in Boston and the King has a busy program of events. The message from the palace will be duty.”
That said, Prince William "could be more inclined to speak out particularly if he feels he has to defend himself or the family over something serious like racism,” so things could change depending on what Harry and Meghan discuss in the docuseries.
Reminder: Volume I of Harry & Meghan drops on December 8, so prepare your life accordingly.
