Kate Maberly Adapting, Directing ‘The Forest Of Hands And Teeth’ With ‘Game Of Thrones’ Actress Attached
Actress Kate Maberly (The Secret Garden, Finding Neverland) and Doug Liman’s Hypnotic production company have joined together to bring a feature adaptation of the Carrie Ryan novel, The Forest of Hands and Teeth before cameras sometime in 2016. British actress Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) has just been attached to play the lead. Maberly will adapt, direct and produce with mentor Liman who will also produce. They are still working on the financing.
Liman’s and Dave Bartis’s Hypnotic productions will co-produce along with Kate Maberly’s and Chester Semel’s Hetherwood Productions. The Forest of Hands and Teeth is adapted from the New York Times best-selling novel about a futuristic world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as unconsecrated cannibals. Mary (to be played by Williams) seeks a bigger world beyond the fenced off village of survivors, and the survival of the human race seems dependent upon her success in leading a ragtag group through the dark depths of The Forest of Hands and Teeth.
Maberly, who will be featured as one of the opening night film-makers at the Hollywood Film Festival (Sept 24th) said in a statement, “I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the ‘Forest’ and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s. We can’t wait to bring Ryan’s fantastical world to life, and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board.” Her short film Charlie’s Supersonic Glider will premiere at the Arclight Theatre in Hollywood, September 24thas part of the Hollywood Film Festival.
Liman just wrapped principal photography on Mena with Tom Cruise, added, “At Hypnotic we pride ourselves on our track record with first time show runners, and as a film director I have enjoyed equal success working with new talent. Working with Kate over the last year on ‘Forest’ I have seen her blossom into an extraordinary storyteller.” Hypnotic produced Liman’s Fair Game as well as the hit TV shows Suits and Covert Affairs.
Maisie Williams, who stars as Arya Stark in HBO’s multiple Emmy awarded Game of Thrones, is repped by WME and Louise Johnston Management (London). Maberly is repped at A.R.G.(London) and Gilbertson Entertainment. Liman is repped by CAA and Weintraub Tobin Chediak Coleman Grodin.
