Who is Karen McDougal? The American actress and model has made headlines recently for her involvement with Donald Trump and Michael Cohen's payoff of her illicit ten-month affair with President Trump.
McDougal has filed a lawsuit against American Media Inc., the publisher of The National Enquirer, to seek to end a contract with the company, which she claims bought up her rights to tell her story under false circumstances and then killed the story to protect Trump as he ran for president. She claims she had an affair with President Trump that went on for months —and then was paid to keep silent.
Here's everything we know about her so far about Karen McDougal.
1. She was discovered after a swimsuit competition.
McDougal, 47, was a former nursery school teacher who was "discovered" after winning a swimwear competition which launched her glamour career.
2. She was Playmate of the month.
Mcdougal was in Playboy a few times and she was Playmate of the month in December 1997.
3. She talked about the first time she met Donald Trump.
McDougal met Trump at an event in Las Vegas. In a handwritten note to The New Yorker in February 2018 she claims, "I was so nervous! I was into his intelligence and charm — such a polite man. We talked for a couple hours, then it was ‘ON’! We got naked and had sex."
4. She was surprised when Trump tried to pay her after the first time they had sex.
"After we had been intimate, he tried to pay me," McDougal said in an interview. "And I actually didn't know how to take that. But I looked at him and I said, 'That's not me. I'm not that kind of girl,'" McDougal recalled. "And he said 'Oh,' and he said, 'You're really special.' And I was like, 'Thank you.'"
5. She was hurt after that exchange.
That exchange with Trump "really hurt" McDougal and she cried on her way back home.
6. She said she wants to apologize to Melania.
Speaking to CNN's Anderson Cooper on March 23, she said, "I'm sorry. I wouldn't want it done to me. When I look back, where I was back then, I know it's wrong. I'm really sorry for that. I know it's a wrong thing to do."
7. Trump says it never happened.
A spokesman told The New Yorker: “This is an old story that is just more fake news. The President says he never had a relationship with McDougal.”
