Even in the year 2020, Kanye West is still trying to defend himself over the infamous moment at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Let's be honest here, we've all seen the clip or at least heard the story. But if you haven't, during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Best Female Video in 2009, Kanye decided to go up and steal her moment (and mic) to declare that Beyoncé had "one of the best videos of all time".

On the September 1, 2020 episode of Nick Cannon's Cannon's Class, Kanye says that the only reason why it happened is because God set him up to do so.

"Right now, God is giving me the information and he ain’t give me no other information. So that means he wants me to say this now. If God ain’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row," he said. "I would’ve been sitting in the back and they would’ve made it the first award and he wouldn’t have made it so ridiculous, because I had never heard of this person before and 'Single Ladies' is one of the greatest videos of all time."

Nick mentioned that the rapper had been drinking a bottle of Hennessy during the 2009 show, but Kanye said he had an excuse for that too.

"I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn’t want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up," he said.

Okay, Kanye.

If you want to watch him talk about it, he mentions it around the 29 minute mark in the video below:
