Rapper Kanye West has provided some insight after it was revealed that he recently purchased a home across from his estranged wife Kim Kardashian in Hidden Hills, California. According to the 44-year-old musician, who paid an extra $421,000 for the property, it was simply a matter of wanting to be closer to his four children (North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm).

During his exclusive interview with Hollywood Unlocked, Kanye also addressed the criticism he's received since purchasing a home that neighbors his ex.

"My solace comes from seeing my kids and getting a solid schedule. That's why I even got the house," West said during his interview with Hollywood Unlocked. "[It was] flipped into there was something wrong with me getting a house next to my kids."

West later detailed his own experience with parents separating. He specifically recalled his father choosing not to follow them when he and his mother moved from Atlanta to Chicago when the musician was a child.

"You see when my mom took me from Atlanta to Chicago, my dad didn't come to the coldest and most dangerous city in the world to be next to [me]," he shared. "He said, 'I'm going to stay down in Atlanta.'"

West's full interview with Hollywood Unlocked will be released this Monday (January 17).
