Look, Bachelor Nation doesn’t have the best track record for lasting relationships. Please see: Peter Weber and Madison Prewett breaking up after two days. But! There are plenty of couples who’ve gotten together outside the franchise and had fully successful relationships—including Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick.
Jason was a contestant on Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette, while Kaitlyn was Bachelorette. So...how did these two even end up together? Shockingly, not on Bachelor in Paradise! Becca and Jason actually met in the real world without Chris Harrison plotting their relationship behind a rose bush, and their story is extremely cute. And honestly, extremely NSFW.

Kaitlyn and her Bachelorette fiancé Shawn Booth announce their split in a joint statement to Us Weekly:
“After three incredible years, we have decided to go our separate ways. This difficult decision comes after thoughtful, respectful consideration. Even though we are parting as a couple, we’re very much committed to remaining friends. We have both evolved as people, which is taking us in different directions, but with the hope that we will continue to support each other in new ways. Due to the nature of how we met, our relationship has always been very public, and we have enjoyed sharing it with all of you, but we ask that you respect our decision and our privacy at this time.”
Early January 2019
Kaitlyn and Jason meet while recording an episode Off the Vine and there! are! vibes! Like, to the point where Jason straight-up asks her out and they go on TWO back-to-back dates. “She is a down-to-earth, beautiful woman who has a great sense of humor,” he tells Entertainment Tonight. “She seems very strong and knows what she wants and empowers women.”
And yes, they chronicle their first dates on IG:

After just a few weeks, Kaitlyn starts referring to Jason as her boyfriend, saying on her podcast, “It’s actually so strange to go from being engaged to thinking of someone as your boyfriend because I feel like that’s taking a step backwards\—it’s not. It’s not. If anything, it’s taking a step forward because you’re just growing and evolving as a person. So, yeah…I mean…I would be upset if he was dating anyone else and I think he would be upset if I was dating anyone else.”

Shawn Booth gets a little shady on Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti’s Almost Famous podcast. Check it:
“[I’m] trying to understand things right now. I guess this goes with her new relationship too. It just kind of makes me question everything that we’ve had. So I think that’s one of the major questions that runs through my mind—just trying to understand that, which I think is tough to understand.”

Trust me when I say — the greatest thing you will ever do for yourself is to simply listen to what you actually want from life. Drown out the guidelines, the advice, the 'shoulds.' Drown out all of the opinions, all of the ways in which others are telling you how to live, and love, and exist in this world. It won’t be easy, it never is; because this is what they don’t tell you — finding your own version of happiness isn’t this comfortable, miraculous thing. It can get confusing, it will be hard. It’s difficult to be the person who does things differently, who chooses to walk away from from a life, or a love, or a hope that they once wanted. It is never easy to be the person who changes. But it's the greatest gift you will ever give yourself. It will push you towards figuring out what your own personal version of happiness looks like; and when you grow on your own terms, when you figure out what actually matters to you, what actually ignites your heart, what actually drives you to love yourself more — you live on your own terms. You become the person you have always wanted to be, rather than the person you were always told to be, and that is beautiful. Because when it comes down to it — life is about finding a happiness that works for you. So choose that happiness. Choose the kind of love that feels right, the kind of love that makes you understand why it didn’t work out with anyone else. Choose the kind of life that makes you so damn happy you kept fighting for the things you wanted, for the way in which your heart asked you to believe in more. Choose yourself, unapologetically and without guilt — the way you choose others. Show up for yourself. Give yourself permission to hope, to care, to trust in the things you deeply crave from life. Choose letting go. Choose forgiveness, choose to turn your losses into lessons. Choose to move forward, into the kind of story that fulfills you, into the kind of person that holds your heart just as carefully as you hold theirs, into the kind of happiness that exists because you chose to fight for it, and never stop fighting for it. Never stop. Thankyou @rainbowsalt who wrote this for me. Thank you @jason_tartick for being you.

The newly minted couple record an episode of Off the Vine and tell the NSFW story of their first hookup—which happened while Kaitlyn was on her period. “I was like, ‘Yo, let’s just dry hump.’ So we did. Literally, I had pants on,” she says, adding, “We were fully clothed and hot and heavy...in five minutes, he picked my nose and gave me an orgasm.”

Jason and Kaitlyn get another puppy and take this incredible photo:
A Christmas surprise came early! We now have Ramen with a side of Pinot! Welcoming our newest addition, “Pinot G” to the family. With the help of @bunnysbuddies we rescued Pinot, who was in the exact same Kill shelter as Ramen. As devastating as it is, dogs put in these Kill Shelters have only 10 days to be rescued. The work @bunnysbuddies does is absolutely incredible and has changed Ramen & Pinot’s lives, as well are ours. In just a short time of witnessing it, it’s clear Pinot was Ramen’s long lost best friend and brother...they adore one another. And the fact his name was Pinot before we got him...can’t make this stuff up! Very excited to share the Pinot surprise video...I’ll have it shortly! Happy Holidays from our Family to yours!

Kaitlyn posts a full novel talking about how much she loves Jason while the rest of us have never felt more alone:
Jason Michael Tartick. The guy who will always look at life glass half full. The guy who is an early bird just to make sure a day isn’t wasted. He will bring me coffee in bed while he reads his morning paper. He is engaged in every conversation he has. He genuinely cares what people have to say. Unless you are a troll. He literally couldn’t care less about negative trolls. His energy is freakin electric, and he works his ass off building something that I think will change people’s lives. (Shameless plug for @restart_reset ). I don’t think people really know how hard he works on that. Not only does he work on himself but he will take the time to help me with all the financial aspects of my businesses. We have helped each other grow in so many ways. Through this weird time yes, of course I have wanted to throat chop him, and I’m sure there have been plenty of times where he’s wanted to run. But I know we both don’t know what we would do without one another and I just felt like sharing my gratitude for him today. I write in my journal every morning and night how grateful I am, but today I took it to the gram. (I can’t wait till he sees this because he gives the best hugs)

Kaitlyn makes it pretty clear that she and Jason are going to get engaged but tells Us Weekly she doesn’t want a quarantine proposal. “[It’s] the healthiest relationship I’ve ever been in and [an engagement] just feels like the natural next step,” she says. “I told him I don’t want to [have a] quarantine engagement. [I want] a little more romance than just at the house.”

Jason reveals that he turned down a chance to propose to Kaitlyn on Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons—Ever!, telling Entertainment Tonight, "“They actually came to me asking me if I’d like to take this opportunity to propose,” adding that there wasn’t “any pressure” and producers simply wanted to “make it special.”
Turns out, Jason decided against the idea because he didn’t want to propose on a night that literally was all about her exes. “We don’t need these stories to align in the same showing,” he says. “But I told Kaitlyn after...she’s like, ‘Thank God [you didn’t agree].’”
Clearly an engagement is in this couple’s future, so stay tuned!
