Justine Skye Shares Her Guide to Electrifying Green Eye Shadow—And a Beauty Secret She’s Never Told Anyone

Fresh off of a flight well before the #stayhome mandate grounded most people, Justine Skye is walking us through her beauty routine on a sunny Manhattan morning. The singer’s favorite color is green, so she’s building up to an electrifying emerald smoky eye. But first: skin care.

"I've actually never said this to anyone," admits Skye of her first step: hair removal. She applies a duo of soothing solution and hair removal cream on her upper lip before moving on to overall cleansing. A Ph-balancing toner follows, with Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir mist after. (“It just makes me feel beautiful—I don’t even know what it’s doing!” Skye enthuses.) As a last step before makeup, the star presses on a set of hydrating under-eye patches. "Everytime I'm getting my makeup done, I like to throw [them] on there to get rid of all the puffiness. And they're just cute!"

"I got started on the internet," Skye shares of her career origin story while swooping her baby hairs up and around her forehead. "I was a Tumblr girl, so I was just experimenting, being myself." Since she signed with Atlantic Records at age 19, the singer has learned new skills from countless makeup artists. Here, she starts by defining her brows with a pencil and a dab of concealer beneath to sharpen the arch. To prep the lid for her emerald shadow, Skye swipes on a primer and gets to work. At the center of her eye, she washes on a mossy hue and highlights with a shimmering lime shade.

Then, after foundation, it's time to go to the bakery: “I’m not the best baker in town…I bake a little,” Skye laughs. She then adds a bit of bronzer, followed by a dash of cream white liner to "open up" her eyes. To further highlight her cheekbones, Skye reaches for her own palette, created in conjunction with Lip Bar beauty, which features sunset hues inspired by her Jamaican heritage. Finally, the lips: "I definitely am a big over liner," Skye says while tracing her pout with a dark brown pencil and filling it in with a nude lipstick. With a bit of setting spray, the look is complete for "whatever it is I'm about to do."
