Justin Smoak writes goodbye message to Blue Jays fans

Justin Smoak is now a Milwaukee Brewer and the former Toronto Blue Jays first baseman said his public goodbye to the city, fanbase and the team.

One of the familiar faces for the Blue Jays during this recent overhaul, Smoak signed a one-year deal with the Brewers on Friday and subsequently issued his farewell.

The 33-year-old has always been known as a quiet and low-key individual, but showing some love to the city and entire country he played for is special.

Smoak spent his last five seasons in Toronto, after the Blue Jays claimed the infielder off waivers from the Seattle Mariners back in 2014.

During that time, hit for a .237 batting average and an OPS of .796 through 786 games.

Although he was mostly on the bench during the Blue Jays’ postseason runs in 2015 and 2016, he excelled in the subsequent years — including an All-Star appearance in 2017.

For now, Toronto will have a hole to fill at the first base position and have reportedly had a mutual interest in reuniting with another familiar player, Edwin Encarnacion, among others.

There will certainly be some more transactions to come before Opening Day for the Blue Jays.
