Throughout the Fast & Furious franchise, the word "family" has been uttered on several occasions. But on Tuesday (April 26), a Fast & Furious family member decided to separate himself from the celebrated film.

Director Justin Lin announced that he will be stepping away from his production duties of film's 10th installment, Fast X. This announcement came days into the film's production.

Lin released a statement on his decision to leave the film: "With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of Fast X, while remaining with the project as a producer." According to a report from The Los Angeles Times, a source close to the publication said that Lin and the studio "cited creative difference." However, the split was amicable.

So who knows the exact reason for Lin's departure. There is no word as to whether or not Lin's decision will affect the 11th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, in which Lin was also slated to direct.

For outsiders, the news may come as a shock, but for Fast fans, Lin's departure isn't as scary as it sounds. Leading up to F9, the series took a two-film hiatus from Lin's direction, turning directorial duties over to James Wan and F. Gary Gray for the seventh and eighth films, respectively. Lin first joined the franchise for the third installment, Tokyo Drift, directing the next three films. When Lin returned for F9, he came in as a writer, producer, and director.

Despite Lin's departure, we're confident that Fast X will be highly successful.
