Justin Bieber's 'Holy' Lyrics Are About Why He Married Hailey Bieber So Fast—and How Much He Loves God
Justin Bieber left behind his past of singing about having sex with his wife Hailey Bieber and is now releasing songs about how much he loves her and God. The Biebs released "Holy," featuring Chance the Rapper last night, the first track from his new music era.
The chorus of the song seems to reference the motivation behind his decision to marry her pretty quickly after they first started dating again. Justin and Hailey started dating in June 2018 after reuniting at a Christian conference, got engaged in July 2018, and married in September 2018 at a New York City courthouse. Bieber sings about their love being divine and godly in the track, "That the way you hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me / Feels so holy, holy, holy, holy, holy / On God / Runnin' to the altar like a track star / Can't wait another second / 'Cause the way you hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me / Feels so holy."

Bieber spoke in an interview released in February 2019 to Vogue about why he and Hailey wed so quickly. Part of it was being he was waiting until he was married to have sex again. “He doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” Justin started, He being God. “He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain. I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior.”
He also just knew Hailey was right for him: “When I saw her last June, I just forgot how much I loved her and how much I missed her and how much of a positive impact she made on my life. I was like, Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.”

The rest of the song explores Justin's and Chance the Rapper's relationship to God as they balance A-list fame. Justin has been pretty vocal about his journey in his Christian faith, particularly on Instagram. Just last week, he recapped how much he has grown in recent years. "I'm grateful I can walk with Jesus as he leads the way," Bieber ended his post.
