Justin Bieber Reveals That Ramsay Hunt Syndrome Has Paralyzed Half His Face

It's been a year of health struggles in the Bieber household. Earlier this year, Hailey Bieber shocked fans when she disclosed that she had been hospitalized after suffering a mini-stroke and this week, Justin Bieber revealed that he's been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which has caused partial facial paralysis and (very understandably) forced the singer to cancel a series of shows.
FWIW, though, a source close to the couple says their respective health struggles have only proved how strong they are as a couple.
"Between Hailey's health scare earlier this year and now this, it's a lot for them. Hailey is worried as well. Just like Justin did everything he could to take care of Hailey, she now does the same for him," the insider told People. "They are a great team and will get through it together. Justin can't wait to recover and continue working."
Justin shared the news of his diagnosis on Instagram earlier this week, in a video message to fans.
"Hey everyone, Justin here," he said in the video. "I wanted to update you guys on what's been going on. Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can't smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move. So there's full paralysis in the side of my face. So for those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I'm just physically obviously not capable of doing them. This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn't the case, but obviously my body's telling me I got to slow down, and I hope you guys understand. And I'll be using this time to just rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so that I can do what I was born to do."
