  • Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin opened up about how they recovered from their 2016 breakup.

  • Hailey said they left things “not on good terms” and she felt like she was “grieving.”

Since Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are a happily married couple and everyone keeps showing off their enviable quarantine views, it only makes sense that they’d create a reality show and dole out marital advice in the middle of a lake. Fortunately, their new Facebook Watch series, The Biebers on Watch, actually gives the fans what they really want: an inside look at their relationship, which came to a two-year halt in 2016 when they ended things “not on good terms.”

While taking a scenic ride in their motorboat, the newlyweds opened up about how they moved past all their issues to get back together. At one point, Justin acknowledged all the “hurt and so much pain” that transpired during their relationship and asked Hailey, “How did you regain that trust and confidence in me?” Hailey, being a totally open book, responded:

“One thing that’s really important is that from the time that you and I ended—and not on good terms—I was on my own, essentially. I didn’t just throw myself into a relationship or throw myself into something else. I did other things to try to distract myself or forget, like would talk to people or hang out with people, but I didn’t search for somebody to just come take your place and be in another relationship and fill a void in that way. I really let myself feel the emotions that I was feeling….It is grieving when you feel like you lose someone you really, really loved and care about.”

As rough as that might sound, Hailey thinks their break was the best thing for them because when they finally got back together, she felt like she had “experienced enough” and knew she wanted to be with him. Also, Hailey said their mutual friends were really impressed by how much Justin had matured and he wasn’t on “any f*cked-up sh*t anymore,” so that definitely helped.

At one point, Justin chimed in and added, “There was a lot of forgiveness that you needed to have toward me and vice versa. We both had made mistakes.”

Hailey agreed and added that she had to accept Justin’s past in order to move forward. “I think that’s where forgiveness is the biggest thing,” she said. “You take a person with all of their mistakes and all of their faults and all of their decisions.” She’s not wrong!
