Remember Justin Bieber’s trip to Paris less than a month ago? Those romantic dinners with his wife, Hailey Bieber? And even shaking hands with President Emanuelle Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron? Turns out there was more to his excursions than shoveling croissants in the City of Lights. On July 23, it was revealed that Bieber is the star of Balenciaga’s newest campaign, which was revealed on the Maison’s Instagram.

Captured by American art photographer Katy Grannan, Justin poses in front of a simple garage while wearing a leather bomber, a white T-shirt, sweatpants pulled up to his stomach, and clunky dad sneakers—it all helps to transform the Biebs into a roughed-up, smoldering babe française. As for an injection of classic Balenciaga sauciness? On his arm was the label’s classic motorcycle bag.

Also in the campaign was Isabelle Huppert, which wasn’t completely surprising. The French actress had recently worn a Balenciaga gown to the Cannes Film Festival to the premiere of Everything Went Fine. The simple black dress paired with Balenciaga’s satin cuissardes cut a slithery, elegant figure among the flou of the red carpet — the moment seemed to solidify Huppert’s stance as Balenciaga darling.

The cameos of Justin and Huppert in the Balenciaga campaign are a stellar combination and representative of the House’s knack for genius cheek. After all, Justin and Huppert are two names that feel foreign when mashed together. But in the case of Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga, opposites attract.

There is no doubt that Justin has a major pull with everything that he touches, including buying clothes, that are representative of the rapid consumption of all-things new and “on-trend” by Gen-Z and millennials. In this campaign, Justin’s monied taste-minded hypebeast aesthetic deliciously clashes with the elegant Huppert, who is symbolic of the classic French codes of Balenciaga in all of her glorious allure and sky-high cheekbones. The unifying factor? The duo, at the end of the day, is wearing clothes from the same brand. It’s truly a weird but fitting match made in luxury heaven that only Balenciaga could pull off.
