This Just In: Chris Martin Is an Embarrassing Dad

As it turns out, having celebrity parents does not shield you from the familial embarrassments of adolescence.

Apple Martin, the 16-year-old daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, probably doesn’t find her parents quite as cool as the rest of the world does. I mean, high school is hard enough without media attention so two very famous parents with very specific brands must get awkward.

Anyway, the Coldplay frontman isn’t as vocally uninhibited as his ex when it comes to his work life, but apparently he’s still quite the embarrassing dad.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Martin recounted a time he’d visited his eldest at her retail job. "My daughter works in a clothing store. It's her first job, and she's 16 and I'm so proud of her," the singer told DeGeneres. "I just went to see. And I thought, 'I better buy something.' So I took a T-shirt from the rack and I lined up in the queue. She was at the check out, and there were two check outs, and she saw me and she went like this, [mouths, 'Dad, get out!']. And I felt terrible, so I moved to the other line."

"I paid for the T-shirt, and I'd brought her some fudge. She loves candy, fudge,” he continued. “So I said to the lady, 'Can you just give this to my daughter?' And as I was leaving, she shouted, 'I love you, Dad!'"
