Junk Food Makeover: Chocolate Milkshake

Making over a classic treat. (Photo: Stocksy)

This week we decided to make over Wendy’s Chocolate Frosty. I admittedly had never been to a Wendy’s before, let alone tried a Chocolate Frosty. In the spirit of a good makeover, I went to Wendy’s to try the Frosty. I am embarrassed to say how absolutely delicious I found it to be! Unfortunately, the Frosty is full of sugar, corn syrup, and other ingredients that aren’t recognizably food. Our version is full of ingredients to help keep you beautiful on the inside and out!

  • 5 ounces of flesh of young Thai coconut

  • 1 cup coconut water

  • 1 cup cashew milk

  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder

  • 2 teaspoons of chia seeds

  • 2 tablespoons of coconut nectar

  • 4 ice cubes

Yields: 3 servings

Cut coconut meat into ¼-inch strips. Place on an baking sheet and freeze. Place coconut water into an ice cube tray and freeze. Place cashew milk into ice cube trays and freeze. Once the coconut flesh, coconut water, and cashew milk are frozen solid, remove from freezer and place in a blender. Add the cacao powder, chia seeds, coconut nectar, and ice cubes, and blend until smooth. Mixture should be thick enough to eat with a spoon. Serve immediately.
