Junior Agogo death: Tributes pour in for tragic former striker
The world of football has been paying tribute to former Ghana striker Junior Agogo who has died aged 40.
Agogo previously suffered a stroke in 2015 that left him struggling with his speech due to Aphasia.
After speaking about his experiences in a BBC documentary, the player expressed supporting for The National Brain Appeal’s fundraising campaign.
The striker began his career as a teenager at Sheffield Wednesday before moving to MLS playing for Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes before returning to England with QPR.
After leaving Loftus Road, Agogo had successful spells with Barnet, Bristol Rovers and Nottingham Forest.
Agogo found the net 19 times in 39 for the North London side before moving to the Memorial Stadium where he scored 41 times in 126 appearances over three years.
Two years at Forest saw Agogo score 23 times including finishing as the club’s top scorer as they successfully achieved League One promotion in 2008.
He then went on to feature for Egyptian side Zamalek, Cypriots Apollon Limassol and had a brief at SPL side Hibernian before calling time on his career.
At International level, Agogo played 27 times for Ghana, including at the 2008 African Cup of Nations where his five goals helped the Black Stars to a third place finish.
Tributes have come pouring in from the player’s former teams and teammates.
