Julianne Moore is twinning in this terribly awesome 'As the World Turns' scene

Julianne Moore stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Thursday to promote her new movie, Suburbicon. In the 1950s thriller, Moore plays identical twins and, as Colbert pointed out, it’s not the first time the Oscar-winning actress has played twins.

Moore’s first major role was on the soap opera As the World Turns in the late ’80s, a role for which she won a Daytime Emmy award. As with many characters on soap operas, Moore’s character had a twin sister. Colbert, of course, just happened to have a clip of Moore face-to-face with herself in the soap.

But the “twins” Moore played in As the World Turns weren’t your average everyday twins. “They were half-sisters and cousins,” she explained, “which is kind of disgusting because it means their moms were sisters and they had the same dad.” While that may seem far-fetched, Colbert said he thought he had seen that plot before, joking, “I think it’s the plot of the Patty Duke Show.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
