Laura Dave's upcoming thriller The Last Thing He Told Me, which is due for release in May, has already been lined up for the TV treatment, with Julia Roberts in the lead role. As well as playing a key character, Roberts will also be serving as an executive producer along with Reese Witherspoon. The series marks yet another big adaptation for Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine, who have so far opted the rights to Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere as well as bestseller Where The Crawdads Sing, which hasn't yet been given a release date. Intrigued in the latest project? Here's everything we know so far...

What will The Last Thing He Told Me be about?

Roberts plays Hannah, a wife whose husband mysteriously vanishes - but not before he leaves a note instructing her to take care of her stepdaughter, 16-year-old Bailey. When the police start knocking on her door, Hannah wants answers and, with Bailey's help, the pair begin to uncover a painful truth. The official book synopsis reads:

Before Owen Michaels disappears, he manages to smuggle a note to his new wife, Hannah: protect her. Hannah knows exactly who Owen needs her to protect - his sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. And who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.

As her increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, his boss is arrested for fraud and the police start questioning her, Hannah realises that her husband isn't who he said he was. And that Bailey might hold the key to discovering Owen's true identity, and why he disappeared. Together they set out to discover the truth. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen's past, they soon realise that their lives will never be the same again...

Who will star in The Last Thing He Told Me?

So far, we know Julia Roberts will play the starring role of Hannah, but no other casting news has been announced so watch this space. We imagine a number of other big names will be signing up thanks (partly) to the Apple TV budget. Meanwhile, Laura Dave ~who is also behind books such as The Divorce Party, Hello Sunshine, Eight Hundred Grapes and The First Husband~ will serve as a producer along with her husband.

When will the Last Thing He Told Me be on TV?

It's still way too early for a release date, but it will be airing exclusively on Apple TV when it does eventually drop.
