Variety reports that Julia Garner — who you definitely know from Netflix hits like Ozark and Inventing Anna — has been offered the role after what has been described as a grueling audition process.

It remains to be seen whether Julia will take the role — but if she does, the actor will have beaten out a ton of competitors in the process.

A wide range of performers — including Alexa Demie, Florence Pugh, and Sky Ferreira — were in the running to play Madonna, undergoing an exhaustive audition process that included singing and dancing trials.

If that sounds intense, well, remember that Madonna herself is directing the biopic — so there's some serious expectations for whoever will ultimately take the role.

In a statement quoted by Variety, Madonna said that her aims with the biopic are to "convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world."

"The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories, and who better to tell it than me? It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Time will tell if Julia accepts the role — and she's got time on her side, since there's no production schedule or release date set for the film. So we'll see!
