Joyciline Jepkosgei Won the New York City Women's Marathon In Her First-Ever 26.2-Mile Race Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya won the New York City Marathon on Sunday. The 25-year-old athlete ran the course through the five boroughs in 2 hours 22 minutes 38 seconds. Her time was the second-fastest by a woman in the marathon's history and the fastest by any woman making her NYC Marathon debut. Jepkosgei also became the youngest person to win the prestigious race since 2001, according to TIME. Oh, and this was the first time Jepkosgei had ever run a 26.2 mile distance. Yes, you read that right. The New York City Marathon was literally Jepkosgei's first full marathon. Like, ever. Jepkosgei admitted to reporters that at first, she didn't even realize she'd won the marathon. Jepkosgei has only been running professionally since 2015, but she's already racked up some impressive accomplishments. She may be relatively new to the game, but Jepkosgei is already inspiring runners everywhere.
