Denis Villeneuve's sprawling adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic Dune ended on a whole lot of unanswered questions, one of which was: what the hell happened to Warmaster Gurney Halleck? The last time we saw Josh Brolin's taciturn character, he was storming into battle during House Harkonnen's nighttime attack on House Atreides, never to be seen again. Many viewers who haven't read the source material would be forgiven for assuming he died off-screen.

Josh Brolin, who plays Gurney, knows better. Having now read the script for the upcoming Dune: Part 2, the actor implied in a recent Hollywood Reporter article that he will be playing a bigger role in the second installment. And now he's deep into his physical preparation for the movie: Brolin just shared a look at his "morning warmup" for Part 2 in an Instagram video.

"20 squats, 20 dips, 20 Push ups in the sauna — 5 rounds after 225 degrees for 30 mins, followed by a 36 degree cold plunge for 5 mins after 25 circuit training workout for cardio and core without rest," Brolin wrote in the caption, adding: "And tons and tons of spice."

The sudden, extreme switch from a hot sauna to a cold bath is certainly one way to wake up in the morning. In fact, it's a technique favored by pro surfer and fitness entrepreneur Laird Hamilton, who uses thermal exposure to "boost the system" and give himself a "good kick" first thing.

Of course, Brolin has proven by now that he can take on an intense training regiment for a movie role. Five years ago, he packed on some serious muscle to play the time-traveling superhero Cable in Deadpool 2. More recently, he'll have been building posterior strength and stability while spending a good portion of his screentime on horseback in the Western drama Outer Range.
