Jonathan Gannon promises ‘major, major experience’ on coaching staff
New Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is building his new staff and, thus far, he is filling spots with young and relatively inexperienced coaches. He himself is a first-time head coach. Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing is 35 years old and has never held that position. The same is the case with new defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who is the youngest coordinator in the league at 29 years old. 31-year-old Drew Terrell is reportedly on track to be the passing game coordinator, a position he has not previously held.
However, fans should expect some more familiar names to Gannon’s staff at some point.
“I’m gonna have some guys with major, major experience worked into the staff because I value that, too,” Gannon told NBC Sports’ Peter King.
Who are possibilities?
He said former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is one of his biggest mentors. Zimmer was not in the league in 2022 after being fired by the Vikings. He is set to be part of Deion Sanders’ staff in the college ranks at Colorado, but he has been connected to Gannon as a potential coach on his staff.
Longtime NFL offensive line coach Mike Munchak could be a possibility. When Munchak was head coach of the Tennessee Titans, Gannon was on his staff as a defensive quality control coach.
Munchak is not currently employed in the NFL.
There surely are other possibilities, but those two would make sense.
The Cardinals have not yet announced the coaching staff for Gannon. It is something to keep an eye on.
