NBC Sports EDGE's Jared Johnson hits on why Nuggets' Nikola Jokic has been "fantasy gold" this season and why he's a lock to go in the top three in next year's drafts.
JARED JOHNSON: Nikola Jokic is a superstar and flat out the best center in the league, full stop. You can make a case for guys like Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, or perhaps even Karl-Anthony Towns as the NBA's top big man. But statistically and in terms of reliability, the Joker has them all beat.
He's been fantasy basketball's number one player this season hitting career highs across the board with averages of 27.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 8.6 assists, 1.5 triples, 1.6 steals, and 0.6 swats per contest on 56.6% shooting from the field and 87.6% from the stripe. That's fantasy gold.
Sure, he doesn't block many shots. But the steals have been a nice surprise this season. And it's easy to forgive him when he's offering you a 8.6 times from the center position while often flirting with triple-double stat lines.
No one was picking him number one overall on draft day. But with his official arrival as a fantasy superstar this year, you can bet that the 25-year-old Serbian center won't be dipping outside the top three in next year's drafts.
