John Legend calls on Trump to be removed from office: 'The President is a cancer'

Singer John Legend called on Trump to be removed from office "as soon as possible" after the forced resignation of Navy Secretary Richard Spencer.

"The President is a cancer and needs to be removed from office as soon as possible," he tweeted in response to Spencer's resignation letter.

The president's involvement in the war crimes case involving Chief Petty Officer Eddie Gallagher led to the ouster of the Navy secretary. The Navy had been planning a review of Gallagher's conduct stemming from a 2017 Iraq deployment and was considering whether he would lose his Navy SEAL designation, AP reported.

Trump opposed the disciplinary proceeding, tweeting that he was "not pleased" about the way Gallagher's trial was handled by the Navy and that he "was treated very badly." Trump ordered Defense Secretary Mark Esper to allow Gallagher to keep his Trident pin, according to The Hill.

Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, are no strangers to criticizing the president. In an October interview with Vanity Fair, the pair said the impeachment inquiry into Trump isn't enough. Teigen suggested there should be "jail time for him, for the whole family."

"I feel like he still gets away with everything if he gets out of his office," she continued. "I know that his first tweet after he’s impeached will be, 'I didn’t want to be there anyway.'"

Trump lashed out at the couple in September, calling Legend "boring" and Teigen "filthy-mouthed," claiming the couple was "taking the praise" for criminal justice reform legislation that he and his administration had helped to pass.
