A dentist/shoe collaboration may sound unexpected, but according to designer John Geiger it was a natural pairing.
“It happened organically,” said Geiger of the collaboration with Dr. Michael Apa, a celebrity dentist and founder of Apa Aesthetic, whose clients include Kendall and Kylie Jenner. “We were in New York City and we went to get our teeth cleaned. I’ve never actually met someone on the first interaction and realized that he has the same taste level – just how the office looks and how he presents himself and how he speaks. From there on, we were like, we should just do something together.”
That something turned out to be the John Geiger x Apa Aesthetic Collection, custom GF-01 sneakers inspired by Apa Aesthetic’s brand DNA. GF-01 has long been one of Geiger’s signature silhouettes.
The sneakers, priced at $210, will be sported by the complete Apa Aesthetic teams across its four offices in New York, Los Angeles, Dubai and recently opened Miami and available for purchase in limited runs on the John Geiger web site.
Dr. Apa said: “What some say is ‘totally unexpected,’ I say is the most perfect pairing. Dentistry is a lifestyle business. Oral care is self care. In everything I do, I am trying to build this bridge for the general public. Geiger gets it; he’s fighting his own box. All of that frustration, our creativity and passion, is expressed in these shoes.”
As for the design, the sneakers are made from all white Italian leather, with the Apa name in mint stitching on the back of both shoes.
“We just kind of fell in love with the office being as bright as it is white. Then we went through sampling and came to an agreement on two different colorways and then we ran with it from there,” added Geiger of the design.
The sneakers will be released Saturday May 4.
