Joey Baker reclassifies to 2018, joins loaded Duke freshman group

Duke’s outstanding 2018 recruiting class just got even better.

Joey Baker, a 6-foot-7 forward originally in the 2019 class, reclassified a year ahead and will enroll at Duke this fall, he announced on Twitter on Wednesday.

Baker is ranked 32nd in the 2019 class, per Rivals. He played high school ball for Trinity Christian School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and he has averaged 10.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for Team Felton on the AAU circuit over the past couple of weeks. Baker offers a solid frame and is a terrific 3-point shooter. His decision to move up a year comes one season after former star Blue Devils big man Marvin Bagley III did the same and was one of nation’s best players in 2017-2018.

Baker joins an absolutely loaded class that features No. 1 overall player R.J. Barrett, No. 3 overall player Cameron Reddish, No. 5 overall player Zion Williamson and No. 12 overall player Tre Jones, all of whom are five-star prospects.
