Jim Harbaugh offers scholarship to middle school quarterback
Jim Harbaugh and his University of Michigan staff already gave out offers to two eighth-grade football players this year, but now, he’s taken it a step further: seventh-grade quarterback Dante Jacob Moore landed an offer from the school Monday while attending the school’s football camp in Ann Arbor.
Granted, Moore will graduate high school in 2023, and Harbaugh’s current contract expires in 2021. However, he works out with Michigan alum Devin Gardner, which is what cued Harbaugh in to his talent.
“(Harbaugh) just said he had heard word about him and (asked) was I bringing him to the camp,” Moore’s father told the Detroit Free Press. “He was looking forward to meeting him. He has been working out with Devin (Gardner) a lot, as well as Quarterback U. He has been on Devin’s Instagram. I think that’s where Harbaugh saw him.”
Moore, 13, is 6-foot-2 and weighs 165 pounds. He currently plays for the Detroit Spartans, who have won three United Youth Football League national titles. He takes part in the training program called Quarterback University; its founder Donovan Dooley explained that he’s “had him since he was 8 years old,” and that “He’s going to be special.’’
At a high school camp called Best of the Midwest earlier this year, Moore finished near the top of the ninth- and 10th-grade group.
