Plenty of people thank god when they win an award, but Jill Soloway gave “goddess” a shout-out. The creator of Transparent, Amazon’s hit show starring Jefferey Tambor as a parent transitioning from male to female, took home the Emmy for Best Directing, Comedy.
After thanking goddess (as well as Jeff Bezos), Soloway used her speech to draw attention to trans rights: “We don’t have a trans tipping point yet, we have a trans equality problem.” Advocating for the Trans Equality Bill, she asked viewers to head to transequality.org to vote in favor of trans rights—it’s since crashed—and added that the hardest part of writing is “trying to be myself in the presence of the male gaze.“
On top of her golden statue, Soloway took home new fashion cred. The writer and director looked sharp in a polka-dot suit by Bottega Veneta paired with Stella McCartney creepers and a chic curly bob—the feminist fashion icon list just keeps on growing!
