David Renne, aka the recently appointed Creative Director of Moschino, has passed away at age 46.
"There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us only a few days ago when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can't believe what happened," explained Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Moschino's parent company Aeffe SpA.
"With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends," he added.
Back in March, Jeremy Scott announced that he'd be stepping down as Creative Director of Moschino after 10 incredible years at the helm. Since then, all eyes have been on the brand in anticipation of who would follow and now, it's been announced that Davide Renne will be stepping in.
First appointed in October 2013, Scott was at the helm of the brand's most vibrant collections, collaborations and runway shows, lauded for his tongue-in-cheek approach to social commentary and consumerism. Launching collaborations with the likes of H&M, McDonald's, The Sims and even London-based streetwear label, Palace, Scott's unique vision is one that undeniably paved the way for other luxury brands to try not to take themselves too seriously.
"These past 10 years at Moschino have been a wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination," Scott said in a press release. I am so proud of the legacy I am leaving behind. I would like to thank Massimo Ferretti for the honor of leading this iconic House. I would also like to thank all my fans around the world who celebrated me, my collections and my vision, for without you, none of this would be possible."
After two decades of designing womenswear at Gucci, Renne was set to assume the role of Creative Director at Moschino on November 1 2023, with his first collection planned to debut for Fall/Winter 2024 during Milan Fashion Week next year.
