Apart from watching George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America and This Week during the A.M., fans can now tune in at night to cheer him on as Jeopardy!'s latest guest host.

On Monday, the broadcast journalist made his Jeopardy! debut, an opportunity he never imagined would happen. The 60-year-old father of two officially joined a roster of celebrities, TV personalities and Jeopardy! prodigies who’ve helped honor Alex Trebek’s legacy on the beloved quiz show.

Ahead of his first episode airing, George reflected on the best advice he received about guest hosting the popular show.

“I think it’s the advice that Alex Trebek gave everyone every day when he talked about Jeopardy! ‘This is about the game. Remember that first and foremost.’ And I think that does get to the heart of it the job of guest hosting,” he said in an exclusive interview with the show. “It’s not about you. It’s about the contestants. It’s about the clues. It’s about the action. Remembering that and internalizing that I think is the best advice.”

After watching him host Jeopardy! for the first time, many took to Twitter to congratulate the anchor on having an amazing start. “Great Job @GStephanopoulos on Jeopardy tonight!” one person wrote. “Fantastic job @GStephanopoulos!” another added. “Well done @GStephanopoulos So seamless!!” a different fan said.

What’s more, some viewers immediately began to root for him to become the new permanent host of Jeopardy!.“Great job. @GStephanopoulos would be the perfect full-time host. He has been the best [so] far,” a follower commented. “I vote for @GStephanopoulos for permanent host!! He's rocking it!!” another tweeted. “LOVE IT! The search is over, the new permanent Jeopardy host should be George Stephanopoulos! 😍,” someone else said.

When George wraps up his week-long appearance on Jeopardy!, there will only be four more guest hosts: Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber and Joe Buck. According to executive producer Mike Richards, he and his fellow colleagues at Sony Pictures Television will name Alex's successor by late July or early August. Although there’s no word yet on who will be given the coveted job, we do know that it could be one of the guest hosts, including George.
