'Jeopardy!' Fans Flood the Internet With Thoughts About David Faber as Guest Host

CNBC's Squawk on the Street host David Faber has stepped up to the lectern as Jeopardy!’s latest guest host and he’s already exceeding expectations.

On Monday, the financial journalist made his Jeopardy! debut, an opportunity he called "challenging" but "fun." The 57-year-old New York native officially joined a roster of Jeopardy! prodigies, TV personalities and celebrities who’ve helped honor the late Alex Trebek on the beloved quiz show.

Before his first episode aired, the 2012 Celebrity Jeopardy! champion was asked about his favorite memory with the longtime game show host. David shared that while he only briefly met Alex when he was a contestant, he feels like he got to know him better through his incredible work.

“I didn’t spend a lot of time with Alex … But really what I actually have done is studied him in part to try to get ready for this. And so I feel actually closer to him from having done that and watched just what a master he was,” he said in an exclusive interview with the show. “You can’t really fully appreciate it until you actually think about trying to do it, and then try to actually do it. Oh my God, I don’t know how he did it.”

After watching David host Jeopardy! for the first time, many folks took to Twitter to applaud him for quickly acing the coveted job.

“He is the stuff dreams are made of as a Jeopardy host. Intelligent, personable, articulate, natural, and connects well with the contestants. Great job!” one person wrote. “He definitely did a great job on night one. It’s taken some of the hosts a few nights to find their groove,” another added. “David, great job! You are a natural host!” a different fan said. “He was great. Very distinguished. Reminded me most of Alex,” a follower commented.

What’s more, lots of fans called him the ultimate guest host and began advocating for him to become the new permanent host of Jeopardy!. “He is the perfect replacement for Alex Trebek. Clear speech and just the right amount of energy. He gets my vote!” a viewer said. “This is the guy who should be the next host - born for it,” another tweeted. “Absolutely fabulous 👌The man for the job - right out of the gate!!!” someone else said.

Jeopardy! is expected to announce its new permanent host any day now. Since premiering its current season back in January, the show has featured a total of 14 guest hosts. When David wraps up his week-long appearance on Friday, Joe Buck will be the last guest host to take his turn. According to executive producer Mike Richards, all of the 15 guest hosts are being considered to become Alex's successor.
