Jenny Packham is optimistic that occasion dressing will be back with a vengeance come fall — though in countries like China, demand for her creations never slowed. Building on the theme of her pre-collection, she offered an expanded selection of simpler crêpe dresses and caped gowns, which have been selling well, alongside her signature embellished ballgowns and party dresses.

The look: The collection ran the gamut from dresses with nostalgic details, like embroidered sweetheart necklines and Peter Pan collars, to fully sequined, body-hugging designs with sunburst patterns in radiant gold, and bright pink feathered numbers.

Quote of note: “We had a fantasy about where all these dresses were going, because obviously we haven’t been able to go anywhere, so really indulging in thinking about where they were going and being very optimistic about the future,” Packham said from her London studio via Zoom. “Hopefully when we move out of this terrible time and into different days, people will want to dress up more and celebrate.…I personally would be making an effort and wanting to wear more vibrant colors.”

Standout pieces: A silver sequined fitted gown with a sweetheart neckline and short sleeves; a belted hot pink allover feather mini bustier dress, and a white crêpe gown with its embellished V neckline and draped cape detail.

Takeaway: Cinderella get ready, you will go to the ball. An optimistic Jenny Packham offered a plethora of options for a world where it’s possible to party.
