Jennifer Lopez is embracing the Fair Isle sweater trend. On a date night with Ben Affleck to see the Music Man in New York City, Lopez paired a cashmere Ralph Lauren sweater with a sheer skirt. She finished off her outfit with Giuseppe Zanotti platform pumps.

The style originates from a real place called Fair Isle, an island north of Scotland. Per the BBC, "The patterned knitwear developed in the early 19th Century in fishermen's caps and jumpers, then gained wider popularity in the 1920s. Fair Isle has since been adopted as a general term for multicoloured knitwear, but there are still small numbers of garments produced on the island from patterns which have been handed down through generations. Each design contains an average of four colours, with only two colours used in each row."

The Fair Isle sweater first became popular in the 1920s when it was worn by Edward VIII (then Prince of Wales, the future Duke of Windsor), and they've remained a favorite by numerous royals—from Princess Diana to Kate Middleton—and a trendy style in 2022. Ralph Lauren makes numerous Fair Isle sweaters, so it's a natural choice for Lopez, who is a longtime fan of the brand—she wore not one but three Ralph Lauren wedding dresses to her wedding to Ben Affleck in Georgia.

If you're not looking to splurge on the Ralph Lauren Fair Isle cashmere sweater, J.Crew makes a similar one in lambswool.

Recently, Lopez, who legally changed her name to Jennifer Affleck, announced a new album, This Is Me... Now, with a track on the album is dedicated to her new husband. In an interview promoting the album, she told Zane Lowe about their breakup in the early 2000s.

"It was so painful after we broke up. Once we called off that wedding 20 years ago, I was — it was the biggest heartbreak of my life. I honestly felt like I was going to die. It sent me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn’t get it right. Couldn’t get it right," she said. "But now, 20 years later, it does have a happy ending. It has the most would-never-happen-in-Hollywood ending. 'That would never happen. We’re not going to write that because nobody would believe it' ending."
