Jennifer Hudson Is Now the Youngest Woman Ever to Achieve EGOT Status
Jennifer Hudson just made history as the youngest ever EGOT winner.
At last night's 75th annual Tony Awards ceremony, the Broadway musical Hudson co-produces, A Strange Loop, was named best musical—officially landing the actress and singer EGOT status, or the prestigious and rare status in which a person has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
Hudson won an Oscar in 2007 for her performance in the 2006 musical film, Dreamgirls. She later earned an Emmy in 2021 for her work as an executive producer on the animated film, Baba Yaga. Finally, Hudson has two Grammy awards under her belt. She won the first in 2009 for her eponymous debut studio album and the second in 2017 for The Color Purple's musical theater album.
Hudson previously spoke to BAZAAR.com about the possibility of being an EGOT winner.
When asked if she aspires to one day achieve the coveted status, she said, "You know, I would love to achieve that one day. If I’ve come this far, why not go for the T? I do this for the love of the craft. I’m truly passionate about what I do. I’ve been blessed to achieve so much in my life. So if it permits itself for me to have the opportunity to add the T to my EGO, I will."
She joins an exclusive list of 16 other people who have also become EGOT winners, including people like John Legend, Rita Moreno, Whoopi Goldberg, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and Audrey Hepburn.
