The words “good hair” and “Jennifer Aniston” are basically synonymous at this point. It all started when The Rachel—Aniston’s classically ’90s, wispy Friends cut—earned a spot in pop culture history with its popularity. Ever since, fans have attempted to mimic the star’s hairstyle evolution—each iteration as effortlessly chic as the last. Now, at 53, Aniston has some of the best hair around, and she just revealed her top tip for caring for it.

Naturally, the practice involves her own hair care line, Lola Vie, which she launched last year. But it’s not super high-maintenance or revolutionary. In a new interview with British Vogue, she said the haircare step she never skips is protectant.

“The biggest thing I’ve learned over the years from my stylists is to protect! We put our hair through so much damage–dyeing your hair, straighteners, curling irons, everything over time has an effect,” she said. “That’s why it’s essential to use products that protect every step of the way.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that two of Aniston’s go-to products from her haircare line Lola Vie —the Glossing Detangler and Perfecting Leave-In Conditioner—are multi-taskers that contain heat-protective elements.

Protectants—specifically, heat protectants—work by sealing the cuticles to prevent damage and drying, hairstylist and makeup artist Nikki Goddard previously told Prevention. Additionally, heat protectors include nourishing components that moisturize and restore hair. Some of them protect against UV rays, as well,” she said.

As for what to look for in the best heat protectants, Goddard recommends products that are oil-based sprays, those made of herbal extracts, or ones that are silicone-based. Heat protectants containing humectants and keratin are other options that will work.

It’s hard to believe that achieving locks as luscious as Aniston’s could be that simple. But hey, we’re not opposed to trying it.
